  • Q: Will I have to change my account number or get a new debit card?
    A: No, there will be no change to your account number or a need to get a new debit card. Everything about your account will stay the same - plus all the great new benefits.
  • Q: You say this is a free checking account with no hidden fees - what's the catch?
    A: There's no catch. First National Bank Southwest has a history of doing what's right for our customers. You told us you were concerned about fees and we listened.
  • Q: How long will this offer last?
    A: It's not an offer - it's how we do business.
  • Q: I'm a business customer. Can I get the same benefits on my business checking account?
    A: First National Checking is currently a consumer product only, however, please check out our Small Business or Corporate Banking websites for a listing of our available products and services.
  • Q: How does the Overdraft Forgiveness work? Will the Overdraft or Returned Item Fee automatically be reversed?
    A: If you are eligible to receive an Overdraft Forgiveness at the time of your occurrence, the fee will be automatically waived. Overdraft Forgiveness will waive one Overdraft or Returned Item fee every 12 months from the date of your last refund. For example, if an Overdraft or Returned Item fee is automatically waived on January 1st of this year, the next time one will be eligible to be automatically waived would be January 1st of the following year.
  • Q: How quickly will you forgive the Overdraft or Returned Item fee?
    A: We will be able to confirm and issue the forgiveness the same business day - automatically.
  • Q: Will I always be charged an Overdraft Item fee if my account is overdrawn?
    A: No, you will not always be charged an Overdraft fee. Our standard $33 Overdraft Item Fee will apply for each item we pay, up to a maximum of four per day. However, we will not charge an overdraft fee if your account balance at the end of the business day is overdrawn by $20.00 or less.
  • Q: What impact will First National Checking have on safe deposit box fees?
    A: First National Checking offers a $25 annual safe deposit discount. There are a limited number of safe deposit boxes available and this offer is subject to availability.
  • Q: What if I want to earn interest on my account?
    A: First National Checking is non-interest bearing. If you want to earn interest on your checking account, you can upgrade to First National Premier Checking which pays interest when you maintain an average daily balance in deposit relationships of $15,000 or more. Also, adding a savings or money market account that links to your First National Checking account will earn interest and help protect against potential overdrafts.

Overdraft Forgiveness and Protection Options

With First National Checking and First National Premier Checking, you'll automatically receive one free Overdraft or Returned Item forgiveness every 12 months from the date of your last automatic refund.1

We understand that mistakes happen and that overdrawing your account can happen to anyone. Be sure to protect your account with one of our various overdraft protection options.

  • Automatic Transfers - With a First National Savings or Money Market account, you can have funds automatically transferred to the designated checking account in the amount necessary to bring your account positive.
  • Line of Credit - With a First National Line of Credit, funds will advance automatically to your checking account in $200 increments.
  • Courtesy First - Courtesy First is an overdraft privilege that authorizes us to pay overdrafts when your account does not have sufficient funds (after the one free Overdraft Forgiveness, standard overdraft fees apply).1
